Riding Rickshaw

My Riding Rickshaw project informally began in 2017 when I was working on my 365 day street photography project, #3StrangersAday. It was probably in 2018 when I formalized the idea and came up with a couple of ground rules: all of the images for this project would either be photographed by me riding as a passenger or images of the auto-rickshaws and the drivers.

Why do I photograph them to begin with? Auto-rickshaw is by far my favorite form of transport in Mumbai. And I’ve come to learn over the years that many of the drivers are a lot like me: they’ve come to the city as an outsider.
