Hint: It's not Sanjay Gandhi National Park.
March 7, 2020 - Mumbai.
Two weeks prior to India's Covid-19 lockdown. Roughly four times the size of New York City's Central Park, Aarey Colony lies right in the center of Mumbai's 18+ million inhabitants. Within its perimeter a forest flourishes. An assortment of wildlife - including leopards - make it their home. There is one major road that cuts through it, connecting East to West. It's off Aarey Rd. where the magic awaits, along smaller country lanes like this one. Local residents walk and jog these meandering paths in the morning, carefully avoiding the many potholes which resist urbanization. Aarey holds the clues as to how Mumbai appeared in centuries past when it consisted of seven islands, unconquered, untamed.
